Song break II
::Dr. Batorious' voice sounds from the speakers again
as the lights on stage are shut down and the Peterhof
falls almost entirely into darkness::
Dr. Batorious: We're now coming to the second song parody. This year, it's the
Best Song Parody award winner: The Ballad Of Gadget Hackwrench, written and
partly performed by Midnight Man.
::Black light begins to shine and reveals the white pieces of clothing the
announced performer wears. He is standing behind his synthesizer setup to the
left, consisting of two keyboards stacked on one stand, a small rack by his
side, and some other components. Upon his command, the characteristic chords
and the rare electronic bass drum of a certain
Marianne Faithfull song sound from the PA system
while a violet spotlight standing at the back of the stage lights up and draws
a silhouette around the chiropteran singer. Split seconds before her cue to
start singing, a second, white spotlight shines on her from ahead and reveals
to the audience that it is Foxglove::
The morning sun touched lightly on
The eyes of Gadget Hackwrench
On an old suburban airfield
In a plane from World War II
As she stood there at the window
Watching all the planes come and go
'Til her eyes filled with liquid
When the memory turned her blue
::Another spotlight, a purple one this time, illuminates Tammy who stands to
the right, and who starts singing along with Foxglove over the first half of
the chorus, albeit being much less present in the mix, and playing a bass
guitar on the whole chorus::
At the age of only 16
She realized she'd no more ride
The famous Screamin' Eagle
With her daddy at her side
And the pain of loss kept stinging
As she stood there, softly singing
Little lullabies her daddy sang
Before he said her good night
::The synth parts and sequences build up more and
more as the second verse comes::
Her father, he was long gone
Since that day she'd been alone
But there were oh so many ways
For her to spend the day
She could go invent forever
Build traps against whoever
Or jump into her father's plane
And fly her grieves away
::Again, Tammy starts singing and playing the bass.
At the age of only 16
She realized she'd no more ride
The famous Screamin' Eagle
With her daddy at her side
And the pain of loss kept stinging
As she stood there, softly singing
Little lullabies her daddy sang
Before he said her good night
The evening sun touched gently on
The eyes of Gadget Hackwrench
They were red and left no doubt
That all the day she had been cryin'
And she shouted out when up she flew
"Where you are, Dad, I will be, too!"
And the Screamin' Eagle shone like gold
As it rose up in the sky
::As the chorus returns for the third time, the bass drum ceases to play, and
apart from the chord sequences, the song is carried away on two different
string pads, one of them being phase-shifted::
At the age of only 16
Her world became a daydream
As she flew around pretending
That her dad was at her side
::The white spotlight on Foxglove is switched off, and slowly, the synth sounds and Tammy's bass, all of which remaining on
the last chord, are being faded out. As the stage lights are turned on again,
most Rangerphiles have to get into an applauding mood or even remove their
handkerchiefs before they start clapping::
